((I dont really know where this came from, but I wanted to write it. xD))
To anyone else, it would look like Demon was asleep. His eyes were closed and he stayed just still enough so that it was evident that he was alive. He couldn't sleep, though. Not just because he was restless, but it was a permanant inability. Sleep was uncertainty and not at all productive.
His other senses were alert, though. Searching for anything that would cause him to get up and fight, preferably without rousing Tweak, who was asleep next to him.
Which is why his eyes flew open so fast when Tweak was suddenly in front of him, whispering his name.
Tweak tensed when his older friend's eyes opened.
"D-did I wake you?!" He asked anxiously. Demon smiled.
"No." He said. Standing up and stretching. He looked up. The sun had just risen over the horizon. "You're up early." He commented. Tweak jumped.
"I-is that bad?" Demon laughed and shook his head.
"No, I'm just curious about why." Demon said, watching Tweak's ears flatten as he looked at his paws.
"I-I had a bad dream...a-a-again..." Demon cocked his head and his ears pricked forward with concern.
"What? About the war again?" He asked, taking a step closer. Tweak nodded. Demon blinked slowly and smiled. "It's okay." He said, curling his tail around Tweak, which made the younger guardian jump. Demon licked his younger friend's ear. "I'm here to protect you. It'll be okay." He said. Tweak blinked up at him.
"O-okay..." He mumbled. Demon smiled.
"What was the dreama bout this time?" He asked. Tweak looked at the ground.
"I don't know..th-the...w-what it usually is...I g-guess." Demon nodded.
"It's okay. It's just a dream." He said. There was was a pause while Tweak tried to think of a response.
"W-what makes them do it?" he asked quietly.
"What? Fight?" Demon cocked his head. Tweak nodded. Demon sighed. "I don't know. Greed or something I guess."
"...B-but what makes them k-kill eachother? W-why?" He asked. Demon looked a little confused for a second. Tweak was aware that his older friendw as a homocidal maniac, and that didn't seem to bother him as much as the war cats. Demon thouht for a long time, thinking.
"Bloodlust, I guess." he said finally. Tweak's ears flattened.
"B-b-b-b...w-w-what is that?" He asked quietly. "I-I keep h-hearing that word..."
Demon licked Tweak's ear again.
"It's what makes guardians want to kill eachother." He said.
"Oh...d-do you have b-bloodl-l-l..." he couldn't finsh the word.
"Yes. everyone has, at least a little." Tweak thought about this as a bad feeling sank to the pit of his stomach. He couldn't imagine wanting to kill someone.
"Oh....d-d-d-does B-B-Bob?" he asked. Demon's ears flattened in annoyance at teh mention of his headvoice.
"Bob is bloodlust." he said bitterly. Tweak smiled shyly.
"O-oh." He said.
"Let's talk about something else for now." Demon suggested after a moment.
"Y-yeah..." Tweak nodded. There was another silence. "S-so you w-w-were asleep last night?" He asked cautiously. Demon smirked.
"No." He said defensively. Tweak smiled.
"Yes, you were!" he giggled.
"No I wasn't. If I was asleep, a guardian from teh war would have come and killed you and you'd be dead right now."
Tweak giggled again.
"N-no, you were asleep!" He said.
"Tweak." Demon said mock-warningly. "You know you shouldn't argue with a homicidal maniac, right?" Tweak's ears pricked in surprise.
"Uh..." He started, but was cut off as Demon pounced on him. "Ah! H-hey!" He said. Demon laughed. Tweak eventually started to enjoy it and they rolled around in the grass playing untill Tweak collapsed on the ground, exhausted. Demon purred and wrapped his tail around him.
"There." he said, satisfied. "You going to argue with me some more?"
"N-n-no!"
"Good." he stretched again. "You hungry?" Tweak looked up and nodded.
"A-a-a little."
"Do you want to help me hunt?" Demon asked. Tweak sat up and swallowed.
"Yes!" He gasped. he loved helping Demon hunt. Demon smiled.
"You're not too tired?" Tweak shook his head.
"N-n-no! I-I-I'm fine!" Demon purred.
"Alright. You're a good tracker. What can you smell?" Tweak paused and parted his jaws to smell the air.
"Umm....Oh! Th-there's a rabbit! Uhh...o-over there!" he pointed to the forest with his tail. "-it's not very far." He said.
"Very good." Demon purred. "Okay, now follow me, and be very quiet." Tweak nodded. Demon smiled and padded quietly off in the direction Tweak had indicated, the younger guardian next to him.
When they came to a clearing where they could see a small brown rabbit, Demon motioned with his tail for Tweak to wait. Tweak crouched behind a bush where he could watch Demon stalk closer, silently. Tweak listened for anything that could indicatet he approach of another guardian. He jumped when he heard a branch snap somewhere behind him. THe rabbit looked up and demon hissed a curse under his breath. Tweak looked over his shoulder and panicked when he saw a burly guardian with dark fur approaching. The rabbit bolted and Demon hissed and stood up.
"What happened?!" He hissed outloud.
"D-Demon!" Tweak yelped and scampered behind him. Demon looked up.
"What...?" he started then he noticed the other guardian. His eye twitched in annoyance. "Hello." he said coldly. "Are you aware that you just scared off our breakfast?"
the new guardian was bigger than Demon by alot, which scared Tweak a little. Besides being on the smaller side in the first place, Demon was scrawny and underfed.
"Are you aware you're on the territory of the alliance of night?" The guardian asked. Tweak stiffened. War guardians!
Tweak felt a little more confident when he noticed how thouroughly unfazed Demon was.
"No, I wasn't actually. I assume you're a part of the alliance. Are you going to try to chase me off?"
"You're awfully cocky for such a small scrap, aren't you?" The guardian hissed.
"Hm. I suppose." Demon said, narrowing his eyes and smirking.
"In answer to your question, no. I'm not going to chase you. I'm going to kill you." The guardian continued. Demon flicked his ear, uncaring. "Both of you." The guardian said threateningly, looking directly at Tweak, who squeaked and shrank back behind Demon. "Not only are you trespassing, but you brought your son. How irresponsible are you?" The guardian hissed. Demon sighed.
"He isn't my son. We aren't related by blood." Demon said. The guardian bared his teeth.
"It doesn't matter, I supose. I must admit, when i picked up your scent I was expecting more."
"Oh, really?" Demon raised his ears. "Can I ask what my scent is?"
"In a word? Bloodlust." This made Tweak stiffen. That word again! Demon seemed to sense this and moved his tail closer to Tweak in a n effort to comfort him.
"Really? Don't you think then, that it may not have been the best idea to come here alone?" The guardian flattened his ears and growled.
"Your voice is annoying." He hissed. Demon smirked.
"how mature." He said. Tweak thought about Demon's voice. It was high for a male guardian, slightly accented. He supposed it could be considered annoying if you thought you were stronger than Demon. But Tweak knew he wasn't stronger than hsi dark guardian friend, so he either found it comforting or scary, depending on the situation. Right now it was scary.
The guardian growled.
"Enough talk. You're going to die now." Demon's eyes narrowed and he smirked.
"We'll see." He said as the guardian lunged at him.
Demon stepped to the side, avoiding him with ease. "Tweak, hide." He said coolly. Tweak nodded and bolted, knowing the proceedure. He found a place to hide behind a large rock, where he could stay close enough to alert Demon if more came, but run further if needed. The guardian seemed more preoccupied with Demon anyway, and he couldn't sense anyone else coming. They probably figured that one guardian was probably an easy fight, so they sent one guardian to fight him. Nonetheless, the guardian seemed to be a strong fighter, using his weight to his advantage, able to to knock Demon around easily.
Demon slid across the clearing after being swatted away by the guardian, but regained his balance quickly, he mostly dodged attacks at first, calculating his oponant's fighting style. He fighting another dark guardian, so using his own element wouldn't really help as the war guardian could presumably harness it just as easily. He seemed to use his weight as his main weapon, the opposite of Demon who preferred claws and teeth. He decided he'd go with his second "element"....surprise.
"You're not putting up much of a fight." The guardian hissed. "You are weak, aren't you?! If you surrender now, I might just take you and the youngling captive rather than kill you immediatly." Demon smirked.
"Yeah, right." He said, and launched himself at the war guardian, gave him a nasty scratch down the chest and darted away again. The guardian hissed and pounced at Demon again, an attack that Demon easily avoided by stepping backwards. The guardian hissed in frusturation.
"Let me tell you the six secrets to winning a fight." Demon said as he leaped over the guardian's head, landing behind him. "One," He clawed his haunches. The guardian yowled in pain. "Expect the unexpected." the guadian kicked out behind him with enough force th shatter Demon's skull if the hit had landed.
"Two," Demon said. "Use your opponant's strengths against him." He hopped up so he was on the larger guardian's back, who dropped and rolled to get him off. Demon hopped off neatly just in time and scracthed the other guardian down the stomach. The guardian hissed again and got shakily to his paws.
"Three," He continued, darting around to face his opponant, who growled angrily and tried to swipe at Demon again. "Keep your emotions in check." he said, calmly ducking to avoid the attack and scratching the guardian's chest, who reared up and slammed down, missing Demon again, who moved out of the way in time.
"Four," Demon twisted so that he cold see the back of the guardian's neck. "Use your strength to it's full advantage." He said, reacing up to claw at a specific spot near the base of the neck where, unknown to most, there was a cluster of nerves that, if severed, can cause the victim to lose use of his front legs. Demon dug his claws into this exact spot and the guardian screeched as his front end collapsed.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!" He spat. Demon ignored him and continued.
"Five." He said pointedly about two feet away. "Never underestimate your opponant." The guardian hissed again.
"GET OVER HERE SCRAP!" Demon shrugged and padded over calmly.
"Six." He said, hopping up onto the guardian's back, digging his claws in to get a grip. The alliance guardian managed to flip over. Demon once again stepped off, then onto his stomach. The guardian's ears flattened as Demon leaned closer. "The one with the most bloodlust always wins." He said as he scratched the guardian across the front of the neck. His eyes got wide and then seemd to fade as blood sprayed everywhere, covering Demon and soaking into grass around him. Demon smirked and hopped off into the red puddle.
"Tweak...?" He called softly. His expression softened as he noticed Tweak peering carefully out from behind his rock. "Come here." Demon smiled gently, signalling to him. Tweak padded out hesitantly, then Demon sat down and cocked his head like he normally did and Tweak took off at a run towards his friend.
"D-D-Demon!" He came and sat between Demon's front paws. "Th-th-th-th-that w-w-w-was s-s-so s-s-s-scary!!" He choked out.
"It's okay." Demon purred. Tweak's ear twitched as a drop of blood fell onto it. Demon licked it away. "Now then." He said. "That was easy, but we should probably leave before more come. I don't want to spend too much more time here. We still need to get breakfast." Tweak looked up and nodded.
"O-okay." He said as Demon stood up and led him back out into the meadow and towards the lake.
"I should get cleaned up." He said. Tweak nodded.
"O-okay." He said again as Demon sat down to groom the blood out of his fur next to the lake bed. He had just finished when Tweak looked up at him.
"S-s-someone's coming!" He said, panicked. Demon sighed and rolled his eyes as he looked up towards the sound of pawsteps.
"Oh, great."
